What We Do / Narrative Shift

Narrative Shift

Narratives are widely-held and deeply internalized core beliefs about how the world works. They help us understand ourselves and our communities, and they inform our collective sense of what feels possible or impossible. Stories are individual expressions of narratives that are informed by actual lived experience.

Narrative shift is the process by which dominant worldviews and paradigms change over time. This type of change unfolds over many years — even across generations — though big world events often spur the creation and dissemination of new narratives.

At CCWP we believe in the power of narrative and work to develop visionary alternatives to illustrate the world we are trying to build and the values that will guide us there.

We center the experiences and voices of workers and lift up examples of positive working conditions where workers have the voice, pay, and protections they need while also having ownership over their working conditions.

Our narrative builds on the possibility of collective action, abundance, and interdependence:

1

Collective action and power

Workers coming together, taking a stand and demanding more from their employers. These actions and any changes that corporations are making comes from collective organizing and action to build worker power.

2

Abundance

There is an abundance of resources for workers and workers should drive the demand. There is a huge divide between the pay and benefits of corporations and executives compared to working class families and individuals.

3

Interdependence

Workers’ connection to one another and the way we support each other. Only by working together can we achieve change that will benefit us all
